BACKGROUND

Shangri La is a unique site for engagement with Islamic arts and cultures that is situated on a spectacular 5-acre, oceanside property in Honolulu; a place of personal and societal transformation; and a center of the Doris Duke Foundation (DDF).    

The mission of DDF is to build a more creative, equitable and sustainable future by investing in artists and the performing arts, environmental conservation, medical research, child well-being and greater mutual understanding among diverse communities. DDF operates five national grantmaking programs as well as Duke Farms and Shangri La, two centers that serve the public directly. DDF`s activities are guided by the will of Doris Duke, who endowed the foundation with financial assets that currently total over $2 billion. POSITION

Reporting to the Event & Partnerships Manager, the Event & Partnerships Coordinator is a thoughtful, solution-oriented, professional team player who elevates experiences offered by Shangri La for personal and societal transformation.

Central to this work, the Event & Partnerships Coordinator supports the development, organization and implementation of events and convenings that amplify Shangri La`s role as a place for conversations of local, national and global significance.

RESPONSIBILITIES

•    Work with the Event & Partnerships Manager and the broader Shangri La team to help create events and experiences that position Shangri La as a platform for ideas of creativity, equitability and sustainability, rooted in Islamic art and Shangri La`s transformative power.

•    Support the planning, coordination and implementation of events including the management of guest lists, event registration, venue setup, design and aesthetics, external vendors and overall guest experience.

•    Collaborate with programs teams across the foundation to leverage events and partnerships as strategic tools that support their programmatic efforts.

•    Implement mechanisms for capturing and analyzing post-event feedback and data to inform future event strategies and continuous improvement.

•    Assist Shangri La`s staff and others across the foundation to maintain ongoing supportive relationships with cohorts and individuals pertaining to events and partnerships.

•    Communicate effectively with all internal and external partners and stakeholders.

•    Ensure the logistical aspects of event setup and takedown are handled with precision, prioritizing safety and efficiency.  

•    Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

•    Demonstrated record of successful event and partnership coordination to support strategic objectives.

•    Outstanding organization and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple events and tasks simultaneously.

•    Thrives in a dynamic environment and is driven to maximize impact.

•    Exhibits excellent judgment, high integrity and discretion at all times.

•    Facility with and interest in technology, especially for productivity.

•    A capable writer, including email correspondence and drafting event invitations.

•    Demonstrated drive. Proactive and communicative.

•    Eager to learn and grow. Resilient and open in the face of feedback.

•    Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required.

•    Knowledge of Islamic art, culture and design.

•    Deep connection to, and understanding of, Hawaiian culture.

•    Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.

COMPENSATION and BENEFITS

•    Anticipated starting hourly rate is $24.25 - $30.25, and the final offer will depend on experience.
