Summary Under the direction of the Kupu Ola Program Director, the Curriculum
Specialist will facilitate the development of a culture- and place-based
curriculum that aligns with HIDOE student performance standards and
expectations. This position will create workshops, lessons and activities
that compliment classroom lessons and effectively reach, teach and
engage Native Hawaiian students and promote increase cultural and
community connectedness, identity and pride.
Work with educators to develop approaches and activities to improve
learning outcomes for students
Research educational goals, objectives, and methodologies to design
appropriate educator workshops and trainings
Provide training in support of the implementation of curriculum
Serve as an educational curriculum resource for Kupu Ola staff through
their knowledge of curriculum development and lesson design
Research and secure resources for educational training options
Work collaboratively with Kupu Ola team and HI DOE school staff to
provide instructional support to educators to increase student
engagement and achievement
Other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications Master’s in Education specializing in Curriculum and Instruction; or a
related field in culture-based education. Will consider a Bachelor’s degree
with strong experience in teaching, curriculum planning and lesson design.
Skills and Knowledge Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Program planning and implementation skills
Preferred Experience Classroom teaching experience in Native Hawaiian Communities
Experience working in Native Hawaiian Communities
