Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Pacific Cooperative Studies Unit (PCSU), Conservation Planning Program for Endangered Species Protection, located in Honolulu, Hawai‘i.  Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.  

MONTHLY SALARY: $4,667/Mon.  

DUTIES: Develops and assists the Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW)—Wildlife Biologist with statewide technical services and compliance monitoring related to Habitat Conservation Plans (HCP) and Safe Harbor Agreements (SHA). Provides technical review, research, and editorial support for Environmental Assessments (EA), Environmental Impact Statements (EIS), HCPs, and SHAs. Produces HCP Program related communications, website updates, analysis and organizes/manages project data/information. Conducts compliance reviews of permitted projects, to include on-site inspections of facilities and field/mitigation sites, and assists in monitoring incidental take licenses per statute. Provides analysis and summary of protected species` needs, status, and trends. Researchers the best available science related to protected species management, habitat management, invasive species management, landscape level conservation, and monitoring protocols. Assists with the coordination and moderation of public and agency meetings and site visits.

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: 
EDUCATION: Bachelor`s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Natural Sciences, Natural Resource Management, Planning, or related field.
EXPERIENCE: One to three (1-3) years of experience in biology; natural resource management; or related fields. This must include experience in two of the following: 1) natural resource management; 2) protected species planning or management; 3) production of technical writing/communication; 4) data analysis and GIS; or 5) project management. (Master`s Degree from an accredited college or university in a related field  may substitute for one (1) year of experience).
KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of the principles of research and data collection, natural resource management, or environmental policy. Knowledge of effective writing techniques. Knowledge of conservation issues, native ecosystems and protected species in Hawai‘i.  Working knowledge of protected species management, conservation planning, and environmental documents (HCP, SHA, EA, and EIS).
ABILITIES & SKILLS: Excellent ability to maintain meticulous documentation, maintain data integrity, identify trends/patterns, vet scientific resources, and accurately summarize complex literature. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team. Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with diverse stakeholder groups. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with a proven ability to translate and effectively communicate complex, technical topics. Demonstrated proficiency in data analysis, experimental design, and technical writing. Demonstrated ability to multitask effectively while remaining adaptable and organized in a fast-paced work environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Cloud, ESRI products, WordPress, and YouTube Studio. Ability to travel to interisland. Post Offer/Employment Condition: Must possess the American Red Cross Certification in First Aid/CPR (or be able to obtain the certificate following the training provided within three (3) months from date of hire) and maintain throughout duration of employment. Must be able to complete basic helicopter safety course within three (3) months from date of hire.
PHYSICAL/MEDICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to hike and operate in remote locations.

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS:    
Master`s Degree from an accredited college or university in Natural Sciences, Natural Resource Management, Planning, or related field. Experience developing or implementing conservation plans in Hawai‘i or on the United States (U.S.) mainland. Knowledge and experience in the ecology or genetics of protected species in Hawai¿i. Experience with developing environmental assessments or impact statements.  Knowledge of protected species monitoring in relation to renewable energy projects and/or other development projects. Demonstrated experience working in potentially contentious situations with people of diverse backgrounds.
