Regular, Full-Time, Limited-Term (not to exceed twelve (12) months in duration from date of hire), RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM), Center for Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE), Diabetes Research Center (DRC), located in Honolulu, Hawai‘i. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.
MONTHLY SALARY RANGE: $7,000 - $11,133/Mon.
DUTIES: Serves as an administrative leader for the Diabetes Research Center by organizing faculty and other personnel based on grant application details and University procedures, especially the timeline and external consultants. Manages the operations and activities of the COBRE-DIABETES Project and DRC infrastructure, including overseeing administrative facilities, resources, projects, personnel, cores, and funds. Assists with preparing annual reports and both NIH non-competing and competing renewals for the project. Oversees the hiring process by developing job descriptions, monitoring recruitment, and obtaining new hire documents for processing. Inputs, reviews, and approves HR Portal transactions, including eTimesheets on behalf of or in the absence of the Principal Investigator (PI) with the PI`s concurrence. Maintains and monitors budgets, program income, and accounts to ensure funds are available for various activities. Advises faculty on fund availability to make informed decisions regarding hiring or large purchases. Creates and updates content for the Diabetes Research Center website and related pages. Demonstrates expertise in the human resources departments of the Research Corporation of the University of Hawai‘i (RCUH) and the University of Hawai‘i (UH), and assists faculty with hiring, annual reports, and terminations.
PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION
Bachelor`s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Business Administration, Communication, Biomedical Science, or a related field.
EXPERIENCE
Five to seven (5-7) years of progressively responsible experience in research administration or a related field, including preparing reports, documents, and publications related to the scientific, administrative, human resources, and budgetary aspects of biomedical research. Experience working with local and national funding agencies, as well as research regulatory bodies, including the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).
KNOWLEDGE
Extensive knowledge and proficiency in software programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat. Strong understanding of the NIH grants submission process, along with research management procedures and requirements. Knowledge of office administration, workflow, planning, organizing, and general business practices. Familiar with administrative policies and procedures related to fiscal, accounting, and human resources processes, such as Kuali Build. Well-versed in fiscal and administrative issues related to biomedical research. Familiar with website management, biomedical research terminology, methodologies, and the organization of NIH grant applications and reports.
ABILITIES & SKILLS
Ability to summarize information and prepare reports using basic computer, statistical, and graphical methods. Proficient with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and software for document and publication preparation. Skilled in electronic communications, such as email and web-based work processes. Post Offer/Employment Condition: Must be able to complete JABSOM BioRAFT training within one (1) week from date of hire. Must be able to complete the UH Information Security Awareness Training (ISAT) within two (2) weeks from date of hire, and re-certify every twelve (12) months.
PHYSICAL/MEDICAL DEMANDS
Ability to lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds.

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience as a Research Program Coordinator or Project Administrator for a research, academic, or business institution. Background in assisting with proposal preparation to secure funds (i.e., hospital, University). Experience with website development and/or management. Grants management and grants administration. Successful completion of the UH Office of Research Services Grant and Contract Certification Program. Experience with UH software, including myGrant, Kuali Build, Kuali Financial System KFS, JABSOM eSF-1, etc., and NIH software: ASSIST, eRA Commons, etc.
