Lumber Yard Specialist

Description:

The Lumber Yard Specialist is responsible for assisting customers with lumber and building material purchases, operating the Lightspeed Point of Sale (POS) system, maintaining an organized and safe yard environment, and accepting material donations. This role plays a key part in ensuring excellent customer service and efficient yard operations.This is a full-time position, 35-40 hours per week.

Schedule: 8:45am - 5:15pm. Work location at the Re-use Hawaiʻi Redistribution Center.

Compensation

  • Position pays $17/hour to start

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

  • Greet customers courteously and assist them in locating and selecting lumber and building materials. 
  • Provide product recommendations and load purchases into customer vehicles as needed. 
  • Operate the Lightspeed POS system to process sales transactions. 
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe lumber yard environment. 
  • Merchandise and restock inventory. 
  • Ensure items are clearly labeled, priced, and accessible. 
  • Accept and process donations of lumber and building materials in accordance with Material Acceptance Guidelines. 
  • Follow all safety procedures and wear proper protective equipment. 
  • Operate forklifts and other equipment (if certified) safely and responsibly. 
  • Report any hazards, accidents, or maintenance issues promptly. 
  • Work with Redistribution Center staff to help manage material. 
  • Collaborate with other Redistribution Center staff and truckers. 
  • Take care of tools and equipment.

  • Provide friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful service to all customers and donors. 
  • Learn and effectively use POS system. 
  • Stay familiar with building material types and uses. 
  • High proficiency using hand and power tools. 
  • Attention to detail and safety. 
  • Ability to switch tasks quickly and often. 
  • Willing and able to learn on the job. 
  • Responsible, reliable, punctual, honest, and efficient. 
  • Connection and support of the organization`s mission. 
  • Lifting up to 60+ lbs throughout the work day. 
  • Ability to perform intense and repetitive physical work including bending, lifting & moving material, standing, walking. 
  • Cell phone and email communication

General Requirements

  • 3 good professional references. 
  • Ability to learn to operate a pallet jack and Forklift. 
  • Non-profit experience is a plus.
