Position Summary: 

The Legislative Aide provides administrative, communications, and logistical support to the Office of the Speaker. This role requires a high level of organization, discretion, and adaptability to support legislative tracking, media relations, and constituent communications.  

Key Responsibilities: 

 Administrative Work 

  • Manage internal paperwork and forms from members of the House.  
  • Assist the Chief of Staff, Deputy Chief of Staff, and Administrative Services Manager as needed. 
  • Coordinate participation for national conferences such as the National Conference of State Legislatures and the Council of State Governments. 

Communications & Media 

  • Draft and schedule social media posts across all official accounts. 
  • Create MailChimp content and assist with the production and distribution of newsletters. 
  • Analyze social media trends and recommend strategies to enhance engagement. 
  • Maintain consistency and quality across all digital communications. 

Legislative & Policy Support 

  • Track legislation throughout the legislative session, including hearings, deadlines, and committee action. 
  • Prepare timely and accurate bill summaries and updates for the Speaker and staff. 
  • Monitor board and commission meetings.  
  • Manage and respond to requests for review of legislative newsletters. 
  • Manage bill signing ceremonies.

Event & Other Duties 

  • Accompany and support the Speaker at events.  
  • Provide organizational and logistical support for events.
  • Other duties as needed. 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor`s degree or equivalent experience. 
  • Previous experience in a legislative or government office is not required but would be beneficial in navigating the complexities of the role and effectively supporting the Speaker's initiatives. 
  • Exceptional writing and communication skills. 
  • Experience with social media platforms, content scheduling, and engagement analytics. 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with strict deadlines. 
  • High levels of organization, professionalism, and attention to detail. 
  • Ability to maintain a positive demeanor while managing competing demands.

Schedule:  

Monday to Friday 

Weekends as needed. 

During the legislative session, must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as legislative deadlines demand. 

Work takes place primarily at the Hawaiʻi State Capitol, 415 S. Beretania Street, Honolulu, HI.  However, work may also be required at off-site locations for meetings, events, and other purposes.
