Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM), Institute for Biogenesis Research (IBR) located at the University of Hawai‘i (UH) at Manoa. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.
MONTHLY SALARY RANGE: $5,000 - $6,000/Mon.
DUTIES: A post-doctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Monika Ward in the Institute for Biogenesis Research (IBR) at the University of Hawai‘i. The M. Ward Lab invites applications for a postdoctoral position to work on the projects aiming to define the function of mouse Y chromosome genes in spermatogenesis and male fertility. Works in the laboratory in the Institute for Biogenesis Research (IBR) at the University of Hawai‘i, M. Ward Lab. Works on projects aiming to define the function of mouse Y chromosome genes in spermatogenesis and male fertility. Contributes heavily to the main project in the lab but will also have the opportunity to work on other projects to gain new technical and intellectual experiences associated with these projects. Responsibilities include the following tasks: (1) performing experiments using molecular, cellular, and genetic research techniques to understand the function of Y chromosome genes in a mouse model; (2) designing, carrying out, and troubleshooting experiments in the lab; (3) performing techniques required for the primary project and assisting in other ongoing projects; (4) performing data analyses, including statistics and interpretations; (5) drafting abstracts, papers, and presentations of results to scientific community and the public; (6) presenting the results at national and international scientific meetings; (7) coordinating, managing, and maintaining daily lab operations; (8) overseeing and training undergraduate and graduate students in bench techniques; (9) performing other duties as required.
PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION
PhD from an accredited college or university in Genetics, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Developmental Biology, Biochemistry, or related discipline.
EXPERIENCE
One to three (1-3) years of postdoctoral experience working in research laboratory performing cell and molecular biology procedures, in reproductive biology field. Established track record of success, including first-authored publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Experience in standard molecular and cell biology techniques (DNA, RNA, protein extractions, gene/protein expression analyses, cell culture and transfection, and other). Experience with histological and microscopy techniques, including immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry and confocal microscopy. Experience working with mouse models.
KNOWLEDGE
Strong knowledge of reproductive biology field.
ABILITIES & SKILLS
Excellent computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Endnotes, Prism, etc.). Post Offer/Employment Condition: Must be able to complete the UH Title IX training within 30 days from date of hire, and re-certify annually. Must be able to complete the UH Information Security Awareness Training (ISAT) within two (2) weeks from date of hire, and re-certify every twelve (12) months.
PHYSICAL/MEDICAL DEMANDS
Ability to work with mice. Must not have obvious allergies to rodents or other allergens found in the laboratory animal environment. Able to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds of lab equipment and lab supplies unassisted.

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience in bioinformatics and analysis of mouse omics data. Experience with chromatin (ChIP-PCR and ChIP-seq) and protein immunoprecipitation (IP, Co-IP, and IP-MS). Knowledge of mammalian reproduction, particularly male reproduction and intricates of spermatogenesis. Good communication skills, verbal and written.
