Intermediate Air Quality Specialist

This is a permanent, remote opportunity for an air quality professional supporting a diverse portfolio of environmental projects across Canada. You will contribute to air permitting, regulatory compliance, emissions quantification, and dispersion modelling assignments of varying complexity. The role provides exposure to sectors including oil and gas, mining, power generation, petrochemicals, infrastructure, and midstream operations. You will help clients address environmental and regulatory challenges while delivering technically sound, practical solutions. The position combines hands-on technical work with project coordination, client communication, and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams. You will also have opportunities to mentor junior colleagues, expand your technical expertise, and take part in professional development initiatives. Accountabilities:
  • Contribute to air permitting and regulatory compliance projects for clients across a range of industries.
  • Support projects addressing air quality and environmental compliance challenges.
  • Conduct air emissions calculations and support annual greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reporting.
  • Perform dispersion modelling assessments for permitting and incident assessment scenarios.
  • Apply applicable federal and provincial environmental regulations, permitting requirements, and compliance strategies.
  • Prepare technical correspondence, proposals, work plans, cost estimates, and other project documentation.
  • Support the management of project scopes, schedules, budgets, technical deliverables, and client expectations.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop high-quality, practical environmental solutions.
  • Support and mentor junior team members.
  • Participate in the organization's safety culture and promote safe working practices.
  • Proactively pursue professional development and cross-training opportunities.
Requirements:
  • 8+ years of professional experience in regulatory compliance and permitting in Canada.
  • Degree or diploma in Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
  • Professional registration in good standing with a Canadian engineering licensing board, or the ability to obtain the relevant designation, is an asset.
  • Experience with air emissions quantification, including annual GHG reporting and Emissions Performance Standards (EPS).
  • Hands-on experience with AERMOD dispersion modelling software is required.
  • Experience with additional modelling tools such as CALPUFF, MOVES, PHAST, or ALOHA is an asset.
  • Familiarity with modelling assessments supporting Environmental Impact Assessments, including acid deposition and visibility modelling, is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of current federal and provincial environmental regulations, legislation, and permitting requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical support and strategy while delivering projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Strong project coordination and client relationship management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly and concisely.
  • Detail-oriented, well-organized, and capable of effectively prioritizing multiple responsibilities.
  • Strong collaborative mindset with the ability to work independently and contribute effectively to multidisciplinary teams.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as required, with a valid and unrestricted Canadian driver's license.
  • Must be located in Canada.
