JOB DUTIES:
A. Direct Patient Service
1. Generates outpatient secondary claims to third-party payers daily, utilizing the host information system's nightly reports. Checks all figures and information regarding patient data and services provided for errors and omissions and performs account maintenance against source documents. Charges the appropriate rate with respect to the type of services offered as indicated by the daily charge posting reports. Reconciles download audit reports against electronic claims import accounts to balance total charges and the number of claims received on import. Calculates and populates payment and adjustment data for claims and attaches reimbursement reports for forwarding to the payer.
2. Processes payments received in the mail by identifying patient name, account numbers, Insurance Company, and Plan numbers utilizing AR Payer Transfer, creating daily spreadsheet payment logs for data entry by recording all payment data, and balancing spreadsheet totals against deposit totals.
3. Retrieves all inbound phone calls to the department relating to patients' accounts. Responds to balance inquiries, insurance inquiries, verifies demographic and insurance accuracy on accounts, verifies charges against source documents, forwards credit card transaction calls to the cashier, and redirects unresolved inquiries to the credit and collections staff for research and callback. Refers uninsured and underinsured callers to the Patient Financial Counselors for payment arrangement or Charity Care eligibility determination.
4. Opens and disseminates any non-patient-related correspondence to appropriate staff, responds to patient or third-party inquiries regarding patient services following HIPAA guidelines. Prepares and indexes all patient-related correspondence for scanning and delivers it to the scanning vendor daily.
B. Indirect Patient Service
1. Coordinates with Patient Access (Admitting) staff for follow-up and correction on returned mail pertaining to patient statements with missing or incorrect addresses.
2. Distributes daily and monthly reports, orders, and maintains printer supplies.
3. Prints hardcopy UB04s and distributes daily to billers and collectors.
4. Daily postage metering and coordination with the Administrative Services Officer II to reload postage.
C. Other Duties
1. Resolves the majority of issues independently; works cooperatively with other staff members, departments, and outside services. Consults with the Patient Financial Services Manager on issues requiring further consideration.
2. Maintains good public relations to enable making satisfactory credit arrangements and tactfully correct any misunderstanding that very often arises in matters involving finances.
3. Maintains the strictest confidentiality of all facility and facility-related employee/patient information.
4. Perform other duties as assigned.
THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS ARE: Applicants must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated; the required education and experiences may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experiences are based on a 40-hour work week.
III. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE
A. Education: Graduation from high school or GED, preferred.
B. Experience: General Experience: One-half (1/2) year of work experience, which demonstrated knowledge of arithmetic and spelling and possession of the abilities to follow oral and written directions, to write and dictate, and to observe differences in words and numbers quickly and accurately.
Specialized Experience: One (1) year of work involved in posting to accounting records and other systematizing of fiscal information, i.e., computing, classifying, and recording numerical data to keep sets of financial accounting records complete and to derive reports therefrom. Such experience must have demonstrated knowledge of standard accounting classification and terminology pertinent to accounts maintenance operations, office practices, and procedures relating to the processing and recording of transactions and accounting information.

DESIRED SKILLS Knowledge of: Arithmetic; spelling; the operation and operational maintenance of common office appliances and equipment, including adding machines and calculators; and office practices and procedures relating to the processing and recording of transactions and accounting information.
Ability to: Carry out a variety of standard accounts clerical routines; perform clerical assignments requiring uniform mental attention; learn and apply pertinent statutory provisions; rules, regulations, policies and procedures; learn and use a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic or schedule form; operate and maintain various common office appliances posting or accounting machine and simple electronic data processing equipment; prepare simply narrative and numerical reports; perform arithmetic operations quickly and accurately; speak and write simply and directly, and deal tactfully with others; and for some positions, supervise others in the performance of moderately complex clerical work.
