IP Docketing Manager - Remote

Description:

The Intellectual Property ("IP") Docketing Manager is responsible for managing the IP docketing systems and procedures firm wide. Responsibilities include active involvement in developing, implementing, and improving docketing workflow and processes, working with attorneys and section managementto establish best practices, and performing double checks and routine audits to ensure compliance. The IP Docketing Manager will interact daily with attorneys and staff from all of our offices, and will report to the Manager, Intellectual Property Operations.

Primary Responsibilities:

Participate in the interviewing process for all new docketing team members.

Manage, mentor, and train docketing team members according to firm standards and best practices.

Manage attendance, productivity, performance and work load.

Work closely with Manager, IP Operations to address performance related issues, deliver ongoing feedback and prepare and deliver year-end performance evaluations.

Keep current with rule changes and make recommendations for process changes, as needed.

Provide technical training and updates to the docketing paralegals and IP Section as needed.

Follow strict procedures and risk management guidelines to perform a variety of complex duties to maintain docket and to track all patent, trademark and copyright deadlines.

Docket incoming mail, and de-docket filings and responses.

Manage, mentor and train docketing staff to perform quality control review of all USPTO and WO filings for the IP Section.

Manage third-party docketing service provider team. Ensure the third party provider follows all Mintz docketing procedures and work closely to improve workflow.

Work closely with the IP Records Manager to improve client portfolio transfer in process.

Research rules and resolve issues.

Perform primary docketing functions and provide backup.

Assume additional responsibilities as requested.

Job Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and/or minimum of 10 years docketing experience.

Minimum of five years docketing management experience.

Prior law firm experience required.

Ability to maintain confidentiality in all matters.

Excellent attention to detail.

Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, patent specific programs including patent searching software, docketing databases, document assembly programs, and efiling.

Excellent interpersonal skills.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Ability to multi-task and meet various deadlines.

Strong analytical abilities, resourcefulness, and attention to detail

Ability to interact effectively with attorneys, paralegals, and support staff promoting a collaborative atmosphere.

Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop staff.

Collaborate with colleagues at all levels; facilitate teamwork; and identifying opportunities to develop new processes/infrastructure.

Physical Demands:This position requires sitting or standing for long periods of time and the continuous operation of standard office equipment, such as computers, keyboards and phones. It also requires mobility sufficient to perform certain job functions, such as getting to photocopiers/scanners/fax machines, and regular bending, reaching, lifting, stooping and occasionally pulling, pushing and/or lifting items that weigh up to 25 pounds.

The salary range for this position in Boston is $145,000-$175,000.

This position is bonus eligible. Mintz offers a comprehensive benefits package.
