The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the day-to-day accounting operations for Highway Horticulture, a vertically integrated cannabis company, including cultivation, processing, and retail operations. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, compliance with Michigan cannabis regulations, and adherence to GAAP. The ideal candidate has strong technical accounting skills, experience with inventory and cost accounting, and the ability to work in a highly regulated environment.

Job duties will include, but are not limited to:

• Generate and distribute monthly P&Ls for all business units
• Analyze expenses related to COGS, labor, expense reimbursements, etc.
• Prepare and post journal entries; maintain general ledger accuracy
• Perform monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes
• Prepare account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies
• Post incoming invoices to the proper GL or expense accounts
• Process payables and receivables on a weekly basis
• Coordinate payment and all correspondence with third-party lenders
• Generate and distribute investor preference payments and annual K-1 reports
• Coordinate accounting activities with third party accounting firm
• Ensure all sales and excise taxes are paid on time
• Follow up on missing payments, remittance, etc.
• Review and process vendor invoices
• Maintain vendor records and W-9 documentation
• Assist with collections and AR aging analysis
• Ensure compliance with the Cannabis Regulatory Agency (CRA) recordkeeping requirements
• Prepare ad-hoc reports, analytics, reconciliations, schedules and projects as needed

• Must be at least 21 years of age
• Must be legally eligible to work in the United States
• Skilled with Microsoft Excel (Pivot Tables, VLookup, etc.)
• Strong experience with Quickbooks
• General Ledger experience
• Analytical skills
