SALARY RATE: $53,904 (Annual Salary) based on the fulltime
JOB DUTIES:
A. Meal trays for patients
1. Assembles individual meal trays for patients on regular and special therapeutic diets, with high reliance placed on working knowledge of varies special diets and proportional caloric requirements, such as house, soft, liquid, diabetic, low cholesterol, low sodium, bland, etc., or combinations thereof.
2. Loads meal trays onto food carts.
3. May write out new or change orders to individual patient's diet tickets. Update cardexes and makes changes on computerized print out.
4. Arranges diet tickets by patient's name, ward and bed number, type of diet, etc. to facilitate serving of food, seeing that every patient has one.
5. Charts changes to meal census as directed by Dietitian.
6. Keeps records of special diets and meals served.
7. Inform Cook of clear and full liquid diets or additions to meals.
8. Checks computerized print out for patient changes, transfers, and discharges.
B. Preparation of Cold Foods
1. Prepares cold foods for regular and special diets such as salads, toasts, beverages, cereals, etc.
2. Prepares tube feeding formulas
3. Makes up individual services of various cold foods according to census requirements.
C. Other Responsibilities
1. Makes rounds to check nourishment for patients in nourishments refrigerators in nursing units. Checks for cleanliness of refrigerators.
2. May wash, pare, chop, dice or otherwise prepare vegetables and fruits for cooking.
3. May assist in washing dishes, pots, pans, etc.
4. May supervise kitchen helpers when assigned to assist in assembling individual meal trays.
5. May assist Cooks in the cooking of food, cleaning, and related duties.
6. Communicates and interacts with patients, families and other staff members in a positive and courteous manner.
7. Considers age specific needs when interacting with or assisting patients: __X__ Infants (0-2 years) __X__ Adults (19-70 years) __X__ Pediatrics (3-12 years) __X__ Older Adults (greater than 70) __X__ Adolescents (12-18 years)
8. Is aware of pain management and considers when interacting and assisting patients.
9. Uses knowledge of different cultures when interacting and assisting patients.
10. Compliance with mandatory inservice requirements, e.g., patient rights, crisis prevention, annual mandatory health and safety, etc.
11. Maintains the strictest confidentiality of all facility and facility related employee/ patient information.
12. Participates in activities of department, i.e. JCAHO, Safety, Performance Improvement, and Infection Control.
13. Adheres to hospital rules and regulations, and policies and procedures.
14. Plans and organizes workload and is aware and flexible to acute needs of the section.
15. Performs other related duties as assigned.
THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS ARE: Applicants must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated; the required education and experiences may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experiences are based on a 40-hour work week.
A. Experience and Training: Two (2) years of experience in quantity cookery; or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
B. Certification: None required.
C. Licensure: None required.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
KNOWLEDGE OF: Methods of simple food preparation; methods, materials and equipment used in cleaning kitchen appliances and utensils; kitchen sanitation; personal hygiene.
ABILITY TO: Follow oral and written instructions; understand basic diets; learn foods allowed for special diets; remember details of diets, orders, patient names and ward; measure food servings and serve food; work cooperatively with others.
