Plumbing Inspector

The County of Hawai`i is hiring for two immediate vacancies in the Department of Public Works-Building Division. Positions are available in Hilo and Kailua-Kona, HI. This eligible list may be used for other permanent and temporary vacancies as they arise during the life of the list.

Salary: $52,656.00 Annually.

Job Type: Permanent & Temporary Positions

Location: Future vacancies with immediate vacancies in Hilo and Kailua-Kona, HI

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

Training and Experience: A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to:

  • Graduation from high school, and
  • Three (3) years of experience in inspecting or supervising plumbing installation work, and
  • Possession of a current State of Hawai'i Master Plumber or Journeylevel Plumber license at the time of filing (scan and attach a copy of your license to your application), and
  • Possession of a valid State of Hawai'i driver's license (Class 3) or any other valid comparable driver's license at time of filing. (You will be required to submit your valid driver's license at time of hire).

Examination: All applicants who meet the minimum qualification requirements will be assigned a score of 70 points. An education and experience evaluation will be conducted based on the applicant's training, education and experience as presented in the application.

Knowledge of: the Hawai`i County Plumbing code, safety codes, and other pertinent ordinances relating to plumbing, gas, and sewer line installations in residential and small commercial and industrial buildings, standard practices, methods, materials, and tools of the plumbing trade, basic principles of hydraulics as they apply to plumbing installations, operation and maintenance of standard office machines and equipment.

Ability to: inspect plumbing, gas, and sewer line installations and equipment and render decisions in conformity with pertinent codes and ordinances, recognize hazardous situations and determine means of correction; read and interpret plans and specifications, and plumbing and sewer codes and ordinances and apply them to specific cases, deal tactfully with plumbing contractors, workers, and the general public, keep records and prepare reports, operate and maintain standard office machines and equipment, including electronic computer equipment and peripherals.
