Overview


Join to apply for the PLANS EXAMINING ENGINEER V role at City and County of Honolulu.


There is one vacancy with the Department of Planning and Permitting, Building Division, Plans Examining Section. Position is located in Honolulu and is responsible for independent professional engineering work in reviewing and analyzing plans and specifications involving the most difficult and complex buildings and structures for compliance with accepted engineering practices, the Building Code, and other pertinent ordinances.


Base pay range information is provided; actual pay will be based on experience and qualifications.


Responsibilities



  • Independently review and analyze plans and specifications for complex buildings and structures to ensure compliance with engineering practices, Building Code, and applicable ordinances.

  • Monitor instructions and correspondence from the office by checking email in a timely manner; ensure proper delivery by maintaining accurate email contact details and subscription to notices.


Minimum Qualifications


Education
Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in an engineering specialty. Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a U.S. degree with a foreign credential evaluation (FCE) if credit is sought.


Experience
One year of registered professional Civil or Structural engineering experience, which shall have been representative of the next lower level (i.e., Plans Examining Engineer IV level). Experience must involve difficult professional engineering work in the review, analysis, and approval of building plans and specifications for compliance with codes and ordinances.


License


  • Current State of Hawaii registration as a professional engineer in Civil or Structural Engineering.

  • Applicants with an out-of-state license must obtain Hawaii license prior to appointment.


Submission of license copies is requested with the application; additional documents may be mailed to the Department of Human Resources if required.

Education and Experience Evaluation: Your application will be evaluated for the quality and quantity of education, experience, and related competencies. The evaluation determines the final score. Failure to provide sufficient information may result in disqualification or a lower score. Examination Weight: 100% Education and Experience Evaluation
