Commercial Division Maui Project Engineer

Hawaiian Dredging Construction Company, Inc., a Kajima company, is a Hawaii-based company with roots dating back to 1902. JOB OVERVIEW:

The role of Project Engineer will be responsible for collaborating with the project manager and project team on project documentation and control, job cost accounting, scheduling, and construction supervision efforts. The candidate should be comfortable taking on a variety of tasks, prioritizing them effectively, and adapting as needed.

As a Project Engineer in the Commercial Division, you will be assigned to the island of Maui. Frequent travel to Maui for project-related work may be necessary for candidates residing on other islands.

The types of projects in our Commercial Division include hospitals, residential communities, and resort buildings throughout the islands.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Detailing using software for field use, including shop drawings for rebar, forming, scaffolding, traffic control, etc.
  • Review subcontractors' and vendors' shop drawings to ensure conformance with contract drawings and specifications.
  • Update RFIs electronically in drawings and specifications for all design packages.
  • Assist the project team in coordinating drawings across all disciplines to identify conflicts or clashes. May use BIM 360 or Autodesk.
  • Assist the QC Manager in processing RFIs, submittals, contractor daily reports, QC reports, project photos, QC meeting agendas and meeting minutes, and environmental meeting agendas and minutes.
  • Perform other miscellaneous project engineering tasks as needed or assigned.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Construction Management, or Architecture, or completion of a Construction Management Certificate Program, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 6 years of practical construction experience.
  • Preferred experience in Concrete/Precast or Wood Framing work, residential communities, affordable housing, and vertical buildings.
  • Basic estimating and scheduling skills.
  • Ability to read and understand plans and specifications.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, and Adobe are helpful.
  • Ability to plan and organize tasks, and function under pressure or time constraints.
