Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participate as a member of Hawai'i Natural Energy Institute (HNEI) Grid Systems Technologies Advanced Research Team (GridSTART) focused on assisting the Principal Investigator with the development, testing, and evaluation of advanced grid architectures, enabling energy policies and regulations, and new technologies and methods for the effective integration of renewable energy resources, enhanced power system resilience, and optimization.
  • Support the team's research related to smart grid, micro grid, renewable energy grid integration, and power systems operation using machine learning data analysis, data science, and full stack web development knowledge and skills; develop front-end and back-end functionalities of analysis tools, including server-side logic and database interactions; conduct data analysis and reduction; and organize and report findings.
  • The research assistant will be expected to be trained in EHSO laboratory safety, plan and conduct materials development experiments, perform characterization techniques, and report the finding in a publication style report.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be a degree-seeking graduate student (Masters or PhD) admitted to or registered in a graduate program at UH Manoa in computer science or related field of study.
  • Must be in good academic standing and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or above and maintain full-time enrollment.
  • B.S. in computer science or related field.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Highly organized and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively in research organizations and establish and maintain professional relationships with coworkers and industry personnel.
