Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Maui-based archaeological field technician to join our team as a temporary subcontractor on an approximately 1.5 to 2 month archaeological monitoring job in Maui starting on June 9, 2025.

This is a temporary position that has the potential to lead to future work. Applicant must be willing to work as a direct subcontractor under Archaeo Hawai‘i and either have or be willing to get a GE license, as you will receive a 1099 for wages paid at the end of the year. Pay will be commensurate with experience.

Schedule is Monday through Saturday 7am to 5:30pm beginning June 9th, but hours may vary throughout the course of the project.

Qualifications

  • B.A. in Anthropology, Archaeology, or other related field preferred
  • Must have previous experience serving as an archaeological monitor in Hawai‘i and knowledge of Hawaiian culture
  • Have previous experience with and sufficient knowledge of Precontact Hawaiian and Historic site and feature types as well as experience in conducting documentation including but not limited to plan view mapping, drafting of stratigraphic profiles, soil analysis, written and photo documentation, and data recovery
  • Be familiar with HRS 6e and HAR 13-300 requirements
  • Have own reliable transportation
  • Be able to stand and conduct physical activity for 10 hours a day 6 days a week
  • Be able to work in hot and humid environments for 10 hours a day 6 days a week
  • Be able to work independently
  • Have a strong sense of professionalism
  • Be able to follow directions
  • Maintain good verbal and non-verbal communication with colleagues and other subcontractors
  • Be punctual, honest, respectful, dependable, and have a good attitude

Duties

  • Monitor construction equipment on a busy job site
  • Comply with safety protocols
  • Operate GPS unit for site documentation
  • Complete daily monitoring logs with detailed descriptions of work monitored and daily photographs and submit by 7pm each day
  • Document subsurface historic properties following archaeological methodology
