We are seeking candidates for the position of Vehicle Electrical / Electronic Maintainer - Specialist (0840) - Rail Vehicles in our Rail Vehicle Maintenance Shops.

Compensation Data

- for SEPTA City Transit Division: $38.68/hr. (Increase to $42.98/hr. after 12 months)

- for SEPTA Suburban Transit Division: $37.69/hr. (Increase to $41.88/hr. after 12 months)

(Note, Candidate Division selection will be based on the needs of SEPTA)

OVERALL DESCRIPTION

As an experienced electronic specialist, inspects, analyzes, diagnoses, rates, and repairs rail vehicle systems including electronic, electrical pneumatic, hydraulic and auxiliary and HVAC systems.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Proficient in inspection, analysis, diagnosis, rating, and repair of rail vehicle systems including electronic, electrical pneumatic, hydraulic, and HVAC systems.
  • Inspects, tests, and performs circuit analysis with diagnostic test equipment to determine the extent of repairs needed to return failed units to serviceability. Equipment includes OHM meters, DMMs, volt/amp meters, milliohm meters, HI-POT, proprietary test fixtures, PTUs, soldering irons, component removal, and vehicle rating equipment.
  • Makes intermediate and permanent repairs; works independently within a high voltage environment, ensuring safety and adherence to manufacturer specifications.
  • Troubleshoots to component level, identifies, isolates, and repairs issues promptly to minimize vehicle downtime.
  • Works from technical documents, schematics, drawings, and manuals; maintains necessary tools and equipment.
  • Interprets circuit configurations, software, hardware diagrams, and technical specifications to identify failed or intermittent systems.
  • Analyzes waveforms, graphs, and charts to assess system integrity within specifications.
  • Experienced with controller-based systems, interprets software schematics, and performs system analysis, including data dumps for fault analysis.
  • Performs emergency duties, operates vehicles as assigned, and uses appropriate tools.
  • Adheres to safety policies and reports hazards, promoting safety awareness.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical school or relevant experience preferred.
  • Experience in electronics troubleshooting, repair, schematic interpretation, diagnostic testing, soldering, and computer systems.
  • Must own necessary tools and pass qualification tests in electricity, math, schematics, and hand tools.
  • Valid driver's license required.
