RECREATION SPECIALIST II (BOTANICAL GARDENS)

The Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR), Urban Forestry Division, is seeking a Recreation Specialist II (Botanical Gardens) to manage recreational and educational activities at Honolulu Botanical Gardens.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, coordinate, and evaluate educational and recreational programs, emphasizing educational initiatives.
  • Supervise Recreation Specialist I staff, providing training and collaborative work, and conduct classes and workshops in environmental sciences, natural sciences, and ethnic studies, utilizing the gardens' features.
  • Develop and promote activities to engage the community, including displays and exhibitions, and collaborate with community groups, civic organizations, other botanical gardens, and government agencies.
  • Perform related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident, or eligible non-citizen for unrestricted employment.
  • Educational requirement: Bachelor's degree in recreation, physical education, group work, or related field, or equivalent work experience substituting for education.
  • Experience: At least 3 years of professional recreation experience, including 1 year in planning and managing botanical, horticultural, or environmental programs, with supervisory experience.
  • Licenses/Certificates: Valid driver's license, First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications, maintained current.

Additional Details

This is a full-time, mid-senior level position in government administration. The pay range is provided by the City and County of Honolulu and depends on experience and skills.
