This posting is for the State of Hawaii, Department of Labor and Industrial Relations, Unemployment Insurance Division.

Position is full-time, permanent, and located in downtown Honolulu, Oahu. In-person interviews may be required.This recruitment will remain open until 25 applications are received. Please apply immediately as it may close at any time.
Salary: $4,155 per month (SR-16, Step D). Effective July 1, 2025, $4,388 per month.

Receive formal and on-the-job training, assisting in a trainee capacity with activities related to State and Federal unemployment insurance benefit programs. Work under close supervision of a higher-level unemployment insurance specialist, receiving detailed instructions and review. Perform other duties as assigned. Trainees handle relatively simple cases involving benefit chargeability, registration, reporting, and refusal of job offers, which are resolved through interviews with claimants and employers.

LEGAL AUTHORIZATION TO WORK REQUIREMENT: The State of Hawaii requires all employment seekers to be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the U.S., or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.

TO QUALIFY:

Education/Experience: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree. Equivalent work experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis if it demonstrates comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Specialized Experience: None for Level I. Relevant experience includes application of unemployment laws, rules, and regulations, such as participation in claims examination and adjudication, investigation of claims, or examination of financial records for compliance with unemployment insurance laws.
