$320 - $400 / Weekly

May 17, 2025 - August 1, 2025

POSITION SUMMARY:

Camp Counselors are the heart and soul of mentorship, caregiving, and supervision of campers while at Camp Erdman. Responsibilities include looking after the safety and well-being of up to 14 kids, ensuring camper safety, and running activities throughout the week. This position requires leading a variety of activities as set out in the Camp Erdman program schedule. The Camp Counselor will serve as a friend, mentor, and role model for all campers. This job requires constant 24-hour supervision of campers from Sunday afternoon check-in through Friday afternoon check-out. The Camp Counselor must have a thorough understanding of the YMCA's mission and goals, and a desire to work with children aged 5 to 17. Leadership skills, enthusiasm, patience, a sense of humor, and self-control are essential. The ability to provide fun and innovative programs in areas such as arts & crafts, aquatics, sports, team building, hiking, and self-directed activities is required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Child Development:

  • Be a role model and develop positive relationships with youth.
  • Provide children with opportunities to make new friends and learn new activities.
  • Be concerned with camper development and growth.
  • Be aware of health and safety concerns.
  • Recognize and respond to opportunities for the group so that each individual experiences success.
  • Ensure that each camper is included in the group.
  • Ensure that Camp Erdman provides a positive and memorable experience.
  • Ensure that children are always supervised.
  • Attend staff trainings and meetings.

Programming:

  • Provide innovative and fun programming for your group of campers, including leading skill tracks and supporting program staff during cabin times.
  • Operate your program within the Camp Erdman schedule.
  • Use good judgment when leading activities.
  • Foster a sense of ownership in programs and facilities.
  • Other duties as required that pertain to the operation of a summer camp.
  • Lead a group of children on an overnight tent camping experience.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Prior summer camp experience preferred.
    • Prior experience leading peers preferred.
    • Lifeguard Certification preferred.
    • Ropes Certification preferred.
    • Bus Driver Certification is a bonus.
  • Must be a high school graduate.
  • Experience working with children.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid required.
  • TB test required.
  • Ability to be physically active all day.
