The Environmental Health Program Manager is responsible for the administration of a major statewide environmental health program such as vector control, sanitation, food and drug, and noise and radiation. An environmental health program of this type includes responsibility for the development and enforcement of statutes, regulations and standards, the issuance of permits, the inspection of various businesses, products and/or processes, and the provision of technical assistance and community health services related to the designated environmental health program; and performs other related duties as assigned.
A position in this class is responsible for the operations of an assigned branch and receives general supervision from the chief of the Environmental Health Service Division. Operations are carried out through supervisors in the various program areas on Oahu and through functional direction of activities on the neighbor islands.

LEGAL AUTHORIZATION TO WORK:
The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
Basic Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
Specialized Experience: Three (3) years of progressively responsible professional work experience in the field of environmental health which required the knowledge and application of the principles, practices, and techniques of community environmental health and safety. Such experience must have involved the control of various environmental health conditions in the community and have demonstrated that the applicant possesses knowledge of one or more of the following programs: environmental or commercial sanitation; food and drug inspection; vector control; radiologic protection; or noise control and; has the ability to analyze environmental health conditions in the community and to assure compliance with pertinent regulations.
Supervisory Experience: Two (2) years of work experience which involved supervising others performing specialized work as described in the Specialized Experience above. The experience must have demonstrated the applicant's knowledge of supervisory principles and practices and the ability to:
Managerial Aptitude: Managerial aptitude rather than actual managerial experience may be accepted. This requirement will be considered to have been met when there is strong affirmative evidence of the necessary managerial abilities.
