The Environmental Health Program Manager is responsible for administering a major statewide environmental health program, including vector control, sanitation, food and drug, noise, and radiation. Responsibilities include developing and enforcing statutes, regulations, standards, issuing permits, inspecting businesses, products, and processes, and providing technical assistance and community health services related to environmental health.
This position oversees the operations of an assigned branch and reports to the chief of the Environmental Health Service Division. Operations are carried out through supervisors on Oahu and functional direction on the neighbor islands.
LEGAL AUTHORIZATION TO WORK: The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment to be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the US, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.
Basic Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
Specialized Experience: Three (3) years of progressively responsible professional experience in environmental health, involving community environmental health and safety, including programs like sanitation, food and drug inspection, vector control, radiologic protection, or noise control. Must demonstrate ability to analyze environmental health conditions and ensure compliance with regulations.
Supervisory Experience: Two (2) years supervising others performing related specialized work, demonstrating knowledge of supervisory principles, including planning, organizing, directing, reviewing work, advising on problems, scheduling, training, and discipline.
Managerial Aptitude: Evidence of managerial abilities, even without formal managerial experience, will be considered. Relevant substitutions as per the Minimum Qualification Requirements apply; review substitutions carefully.
