This recruitment is being conducted under the Operation Hire Hawaii (OH-HI) project, a targeted outreach initiative featuring an expedited hiring process, fast-tracking qualified applicants into job opportunities throughout Hawai'i.

Shift Work: All applicants must be available to work rotating shifts, including evenings, weekends and holidays. Mandatory overtime may be required.
Per Bona Fide Occupational Qualification Requirements: There are immediate FEMALE ONLY vacancies on all islands.
Tests will be administered either on your respective island: Oahu, Big Island, Maui, and Kauai OR all applicants may be required to travel to Oahu to complete. The Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation will notify all qualified applicants of the testing location, date, time, and other requirements via email. If traveling is required to test, applicants will be responsible for all costs associated with the travel.
The Adult Corrections Officer Recruit initially receives training and orientation in basic security and custodial duties; performs security and custodial duties at a variety of posts as assigned; and performs other related duties as assigned. As training progresses, the incumbent will eventually be independently responsible on an assigned shift at any post for maintaining the safekeeping and control of adult residents in group quarters and individual activities.
Legal Authorization To Work: The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
Education: Graduation from high school, or equivalent. ONE (1) year of work experience requiring the ability to read, comprehend, and apply written directions, or a high degree of verbal skill may be substituted for graduation from high school.
General Experience: ONE (1) year of responsible work experience which shows that the applicant possesses the ability to relate effectively with people in following the instructions of a supervisor and giving or exchanging information.
Driver's License: Applicants must possess a valid driver's license at the time of appointment.

Firearms Requirement: Applicants must meet all Federal and State regulations pertaining to the carrying, use and possession of firearms and ammunition.
Personal Requirements: Applicants must demonstrate that they possess traits and characteristics required for this work.
Physical Requirements: Applicants must be physically able to perform the essential duties of the position.
Probationary Period: If selected for employment, you must pass all phases of the BCRC and additional drug tests during your nine-month probationary period.
The examination for this recruitment involves "successive hurdles." Applicants must successfully complete and pass EACH test phase before proceeding to the next.
Qualified candidates who have successfully completed and passed EACH test phase will be contacted to attend the next available Basic Corrections Recruit Class (BCRC).
