Job Overview

The Department of Human Services is seeking applications for the position of Foster Grandparent Program Specialist. This is a part-time, permanent role based in Hilo, Hawaii, with a salary range of $28.03 to $34.14 per hour.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct foster grandparents program activities within a participating agency.
  • Supervise foster grandparents and their volunteer activities in educational settings.
  • Assist in selecting, orienting, training, and assigning foster grandparent volunteers based on compatibility and needs.
  • Evaluate the program's effectiveness in meeting its objectives to provide volunteer opportunities for individuals aged 55 and older and to support students through mentorship and tutoring.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet all of the following:

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. (citizen, national, or permanent resident alien).
  • Either:
  • Six (6) years of relevant administrative, professional, or analytical experience, including two (2) years involving human and social issues, OR
  • Bachelor's degree with two (2) years of relevant professional experience, OR
  • Master's degree in social work, human behavior, or a related social science focusing on aging.

Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge of social, economic, and community needs of older adults and children, including childhood development and education. Ability to understand laws and regulations, supervise volunteers, communicate effectively, analyze challenges, develop action plans, and prepare reports.

Additional Requirements

  • Valid driver's license at the time of appointment.
