Duties and Responsibilities

The Solutions Engineer II – Special Projects will work directly with MilTech teams and industry partners to identify and develop solutions that address DOD and other government customer technology gaps. Work will be in support of both unclassified and classified projects, so a TS clearance is a requirement for this position. Activities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Work with Special Projects team, and other MilTech teams as needed, to understand DOD Program requirements and identify the project deliverables to address technology gaps.
  • Provide electrical engineering expertise in support of unclassified and classified projects up to the TS level, including those focused on electromagnetic warfare and tactical communications systems. TS security clearance must be maintained for the duration of employment in this position.
  • Act as industry liaison for assigned projects.
  • Follow project timelines and established budgets in team environment to meet customer expectations.
  • Assist with in solutions development including technology scouting and market research.
  • Provide electrical engineering expertise for design reviews and field evaluations with the DOD customer and users.
  • Develop and execute testing protocols on proposed technology solutions.
  • Develop technical data packages.
  • Maintain AFRL -sponsored Common Access Card and associated government email to be used for all CUI communications for duration of employment.
  • Follow State of Montana and Federal guidelines for the procurement of goods and services in support of project execution.
  • Travel by all modes of transport as needed to meet with MilTech teams, government customers, and industry partners as required for the success of the projects. Travel is anticipated to be required average of 2x per month.
  • Comply at all times with the MilTech Confidentiality Agreement governing non-disclosure of information encountered in the course of your duties, and the MilTech Technology Control Plan governing security and work controls.
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  • TS clearance upon hire; must be maintained for the duration of employment.
  • Demonstrated experience working with projects focused on electromagnetic warfare and tactical communications systems.
  • Demonstrated experience providing electrical engineering expertise for DOD and other government projects.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting both classified and unclassified projects up to the TS level.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  • Demonstrated experience in the design, prototyping and manufacturing rugged mechanical systems for Department of Defense programs.
  • Demonstrated experience in selecting materials and hardware for rugged use mechanical systems Department of Defense programs.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting preliminary design reviews, critical design reviews
  • Experience with lean manufacturing principles in a manufacturing environment.

  • Effectively collaborate with MilTech, MSU , DOD , government, civilian, internal and external personnel in order to accomplish multiple technology transition projects.

  • Demonstrate good judgment, flexibility and innovation to respond to the needs of a wide variety of clients.
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Position Special Requirements/Additional Information

This position requires a TS clearance upon hire, and must be maintained for duration of employment, and is contingent upon continued grant funding.

This position may require the ability to obtain and maintain a DOD National Security Clearance and Common Access Card ( CAC ), and/or meet other government-defined restrictions appropriate for work level and access. Other security-related requirements will include receiving favorable background checks by state and federal agencies pursuant to federal law and regulations.

Successful candidate must be able to comply with the federally mandated requirements of U.S. export control laws, which may require proof that candidate is a U.S. person. Per 22 CFR §120.15, U.S. person means a person who is a lawful permanent resident as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1101(a)(20) or who is a protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3).

This position requires ability to travel via all modes of transport when necessary to interact with DOD and/or DHS customers, including travel throughout the Continental United States as well as Alaska, Hawaii, U.S territories and possessions, and possibly other worldwide locations.
