Salary:

  1. Level I - $4,155 per month (SR-16, Step D)
  2. Level II - $4,495 per month (SR-18, Step D)

Level I: Receives training and assists in a trainee capacity in activities pertaining to professional accounting work and performs other duties as required. This class involves assignments designed to provide experience in the practical application of accounting principles, procedures, and techniques, and familiarity with the nature and structure of the particular accounting system. Assignments are part of a planned, organized training program and are characterized by detailed instructions and close review.

Level II: Is an advanced trainee and performs a variety of assignments ranging from simple to moderately difficult, which do not require the services of a fully trained accountant, and performs other related duties as assigned. As an advanced trainee, the incumbent progresses towards full performance as an independent worker. This class requires applying knowledge of accounting principles, procedures, and practices in carrying out assignments.

To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:

Legal Authorization to Work Requirement:

The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State to be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.

Basic Education: A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited four-year college or university with at least 12 semester credit hours in accounting and/or auditing subjects for both levels.

Accounting Experience:

Accountant I: None required.

Accountant II: Six (6) months of progressively responsible professional accounting or auditing experience, which may include teaching accounting at the university level.

Substitutions Allowed: Relevant substitutions as described in the Minimum Qualification Requirements may apply.
