An Accountant II performs professional accounting work on selected phases of a fiscal program, or for a small department in accordance with standard accounting practices and general instructions; and performs other related duties as required.
There is one (1) vacancy with the Department of Budget and Fiscal Services, Accounting Division, located in Honolulu at the Fasi Municipal Building. The position is responsible for applying professional accounting principles and practices in the maintenance of an accounting system at an advanced trainee level. Professional level accounting duties including but not limited to the preparation of worksheets, financial reports, exhibits and statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting standards; compiling and analyzing financial data; maintaining ledgers and other fiscal records.

At time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.Equivalent to graduation from a regionally-accredited college or university with a major in Accounting or a related field with at least 12 semester credits in accounting or auditing courses. Six of the 12 credits must be above the beginning or elementary course level and from a regionally-accredited four-year college or university.
Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at a regionally-accredited college/university in the United States. In order to receive credit for the education, a foreign credential evaluation (FCE) must be provided. We also reserve the right to request further information about your academic program, evidence of comparability, or an original transcript.

Substitution: Work experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis. Such experience must have provided the knowledge, skills, and analytical ability normally gained from attainment of a bachelor's degree in accounting.
One (1) year of experience in professional (post-Bachelor's/non-clerical) accounting.
Such experience must have demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices of accounting and governmental financial reporting standards and the preparation and analysis of financial statements and reports. Such experience must have also demonstrated the ability to prepare complete and accurate financial reports and standards and analyze data, detect errors and correct inconsistencies in accounting records.
Substitution: A Master's degree in Accounting will substitute for the one year of professional accounting experience.
