Job Summary

Under general supervision of the Food Service Retail Manager, the Lead - Food Service Worker provides work direction and performs duties in conjunction with Food Service Workers to ensure food is ready to be served to students and customers; maintains food service areas, facilities, and equipment in clean and sanitary condition.

Job Description

Supervision and Customer Service (45%)

  • Train, provide leadership, and work direction to assigned Food Service substitutes and staff.
  • Assist the Food Services Manager in the coordination of the ordering, preparation, and selling of food at designated sites.
  • Organize supplies, ensure sanitation, and perform other housekeeping duties for the entire service, including dining room and dish room areas.
  • Respond directly to all customer complaints and ensure they are resolved efficiently and immediately in a professional manner.
  • Maintain familiarity with the electronic point of sale (POS) system, including cash registers, scanners, and basic troubleshooting; ensure that cashiers are trained proficiently and that all cashiers balance their till.
  • Responsible for opening and closing the dining operation and flexible to work nights, weekends, and holidays as directed by the manager.

Management Assistance/Training/Other (55%)

  • Assist in all areas of Food Services when needed or asked by Director or Managers.
  • Assist the manager and full-time supervisors to conduct Focus group meetings.
  • Assist supervisor in training site employees and departmental substitutes in production service operations, safety, sanitation, cash handling, program compliance, and departmental procedures.
  • Provide a positive and professional environment at all times.
  • Maintain and enforce all university policies, regulations, and dress codes for employees and customers while within the facilities.
  • Keep track of overtime hours and report them to the Manager.
  • Report to the Food Service Retail Manager and perform other job duties as directed.
  • Must be able to navigate through basic computer programming functions.
  • Help with product movement, ordering, receiving, distributing, stocking, and maintaining FIFO on all products and monitor pricing and retail pricing.
  • During breaks, holidays, or events, assist the Banyan Dining Hall & Catering as needed.

Approximate starting hourly rate: $17.00 - $19.00. The wage offered could be above or below the range based on education and experience as it relates to the job description.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk and sit. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
