Engineer VI - Repair and Maintenance Operations Section

Description:

SALARY RANGE:
Engineer VI, SR-28: $7,747.00 - $8,809.00 per month (includes shortage differential)

All new external applicants will be placed on the initial step of the salary range. Placement above the initial step will be based on special characteristics and critical needs of the position, an applicant's exceptional qualifications, the availability of funds, and other relevant factors. Such appointments require prior approval. Hawaii State Department of Education employees will be placed on the salary range in accordance with Department regulations.

Responsibilities:

  1. Supervises the professional and nonprofessional personnel of a major engineering activity;
  2. Develops procedures and standards for carrying out specialty in the organization and represents the organization with authority on technical engineering matters within the area of specialization;
  3. May direct a large engineering section or assist in directing a large engineering division or district office as a technical specialist in planning, development, design and/or research;
  4. May lead the efforts of a team engaged in carrying out difficult or critical project assignments with emphasis in the area of specialization;
  5. Serves as a staff specialist responsible for overall control and coordination of a number of major and complex engineering projects or programs;
  6. Performs other duties as required.

Basic Education/Experience Requirements:

All applicants must meet one of the requirements specified in A, B or C below:

  1. A. Graduation from a school of engineering in an accredited college or university. For some positions, graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in physics, mathematics or chemistry may be accepted as qualifying, provided the applicant has had at least 15 credits in engineering sciences common to all engineering disciplines.
  2. B. Administrative, professional or technical experience involving the application and knowledge of the fundamental physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering including physics, chemistry, mathematics through integral calculus and engineering sciences such as statics, dynamics, strength of material, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and engineering drawing. Such experience must be substantially equivalent to the knowledge and understanding gained by completion of a college training leading to a Bachelor's degree in engineering; or,
  3. C. A combination of college training in engineering and experience mentioned in B above substantively equivalent to completion of a college training leading to a Bachelor's degree in engineering.

Except for the substitutions provided for in this specification, applicants must have had progressively responsible experience of the kind and quality described below:

Quality of Experience:

For the Engineer VI level, at least one year of the required engineering experience must have been experience comparable to the next lower level. The applicant's record of experience and education must show that the applicant has the ability to perform efficiently the duties of the position.

Professional Engineering License Requirement:

For the Engineer IV and higher levels, applicants must possess a Hawaii State Certificate of Registration as a professional engineer.

Driver's License Requirement:

Applicant must have a current, valid driver's license.

Lift/Carry Requirement:

Applicants must be able to lift/carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds unassisted.
