Payband B - Duties and Responsibilities (* denotes essential functions):
*Responsible for providing online support to users of Zoom and related instructional technologies.
*Creates training guides and tutorials for users of Zoom and related instructional technologies.
*Ensures that the University of Hawai'i video conferencing system is running efficiently with up to date firmware and performs up to user needs and requirements.
*Reviews proper implementation of 3rd party software to university Zoom contract with ITS security and Data governance teams.
*Works with technical staff with maintenance and analysis of various unified communication hardware, TCP/IP networks, SIP trunks and server systems; in the exploration/testing of upgrades and new technologies.
*Responsible for installing and configuring rack mounted server hardware, VM servers, updates firmware and software versions to new and existing servers. Ensures compatibility with all software updates.
*Monitors, maintains, troubleshoots, and provides overall support for departmental web servers, departmental server appliances and departmental VM appliance servers, OSes, and applications. Ensures all servers, VMs, and applications updated/patched to prevent potential security risks and threats (e.g. network intrusions, trojans, bots, spyware, malware, etc.)
*Responsible for maintaining and providing support for legacy Polycom hardware and VM servers for the purpose of Telecom usage of hot standby phone and video bridge.
*Enforces established security procedures to mitigate or isolate the impact of network intrusions, SIP or DNS attacks or other incidents from University resources.
Provides clear reports of network and hardware problems to appropriate staff within the UH System.
*Troubleshoots, analyzes, investigates, problem solves, implements necessary corrective actions with statewide video broadcast cable equipment, channels and videoconferencing servers.
*Evaluates components with IT network engineers such as switches, routers, etc. to achieve peak efficiency within the overall connectivity of all video related equipment and server infrastructure.
*Develops, configures, installs and maintenance for present and future video conferencing infrastructure servers, hardware and software endpoints and other Distance Learning and instructional technologies.
Maintains records of all findings to ensure operating efficiency of servers and related IP based video equipment.
Provides advice to IT peers regarding elementary network design, monitoring, maintenance and implementation, consistent with the general principles followed on University campus networks.
Develops policy, escalation and procedures that are essential to the operations of videoconferencing systems.
*Identifies malfunctioning hardware and/or software for the purpose of implementing necessary corrective actions, resolving technical problems and providing ongoing support for all video services.
*Programs software scripts, desktop and web applications, utilities and applications - using languages such as but not limited to: AppleScript, Java, PHP, HTML, Javascript - for the purpose of automating daily routine tasks, database and server backups, third-party service integrations, online services and various other services.
*Provides operational support in the coordination of interconnections between various systems (i.e. Broadcast cable servers, IP Based CATV distribution) and campus locations.
Installs and terminates data and video communication cable and hardware, e.g., CAT X, coaxial cables, workgroup switch, or functional server, using established procedures.
*Coordinates project efforts or work tasks that may include integrating the work of other IT professional staff, student technicians, contractors and suppliers.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a pertinent baccalaureate educational degree in Telecommunications, Management Information System, Computer Science, Instructional Technology or Learning Design & Technology or related field and 3 years of progressively responsible professional information technology experience with responsibilities for video based learning technologies, of which 2 years of the experience must have been comparable in scope and complexity to the next lower payband in the University of Hawai'i broadband system; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
Considerable working knowledge of video conferencing and instructional technologies as demonstrated by the broad knowledge and understanding of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving information technology concepts, principles and methodologies.
Considerable working knowledge and understanding of the broad technology, systems, hardware and software associated with video conferencing and instructional technologies.
Demonstrated ability to recognize a wide range of intricate problems, use reasoning and logic to determine accurate causes, and apply principles and practices to determine, evaluate, integrate, and implement practical and thorough solutions in an effective and timely manner.
Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
For supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
Knowledge of current technology and techniques used in instructional technologies and video conferencing.
Knowledge of various operating systems, configuring and maintaining servers and server related equipment.
Knowledge of principles and practices associated with telecommunication and instructional technology.
Knowledge of the methods, materials, practices, techniques and equipment used in smart classrooms.
Ability to develop, understand, analyze, interpret and apply complex oral and written guides, instructions, manuals, standards, rules and regulations to a variety of work situations.
Ability to operate and instruct on the operations of various instructional technologies used in classrooms and conference rooms.
Ability to work a variable work schedule; work outside normally scheduled work hours including day, night, weekend and/or holiday hours, as directed.
Desirable Qualifications
Knowledge of the University's data and video networks.
Knowledge of the University of Hawaii Manoa's network infrastructure.
Knowledge of EIA/TIA design and wiring installation standards and coaxial cable termination.
Working knowledge of: Principles and practices in the field of IP based video telecommunications, unified communication systems; and use of voice/audio and data systems, including H.323, SIP video bridges and H.323 hardware endpoints.
Ability to trace signal flow and troubleshoot from diagrams.
Ability to assist in the design, install, configurations, integrate and test hardware and software servers that support videoconferencing systems.
Working knowledge of digital based broadcast servers, broadcast automation servers and infrastructure over various fiber and IP based networks.
Experience installing and maintaining servers, VM's and other instructional technology equipment and platforms.
Experience working with and troubleshooting video-based technologies.
Experience working with and troubleshooting Extron and related room control systems.
