Description

The primary responsibility of a POS Clerk is to ensure customer satisfaction by maintaining the pricing accuracy of all merchandise sold in the store, in a timely manner. A POS Clerk also increases customer loyalty by assisting all customers with courteous, pleasant, patient service and treatment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
You MUST perform the following duties regularly and up to company standards:
•Promptly, courteously and efficiently greet, thank, offer assistance, and meet the needs of all customers.
•Assist co-workers, vendors, and customers with verification of prices.
•Make necessary corrections on any item that is scanning incorrectly or not scanning at all.
•Perform validation procedures and shelf label audits. Report errors, discrepancies, etc. to Buyers.
•Print, sort and hang shelf labels and shelf talkers.
•Make and display signs for various displays.
•Enter and log all In-Store specials, and other ADD / CHANGE items.
•Print, review, sort, copy, distribute, file, and clear miscellaneous reports.
•Conduct daily Country of Origin (C.O.O.L.) inspections for the Produce and Meat Departments.
NON-ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
In order to provide the best possible service to our customers, the following duties are also required on an as-needed basis, during slow periods, or upon instruction by a supervisor, manager or designated person-in-charge.
•Answer phone calls and assist co-workers and customers, as needed.
•Assist co-workers with Web Store specials, and the use of Symbol and Palm units.
•Calculate, distribute and file various reports.
•Perform and transmit weekly 99 talker audits.
•Deface and red tag deleted or purged items.
•Perform quarterly back-up of all Hobart scales.
•Clean and maintain display shelves.
•Prepare sales floor, and assist departments with inventory.
•Assist other departments when needed.
•Perform other duties as required or assigned.

CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPECTATIONS
All associates are required to provide our customers with World Class Service with a local touch.
•GREET all customers (be friendly, smile and make face-to-face eye contact).
•HELP all customers (listen and pay attention; be courteous; be knowledgeable about product location, services offered and store hours; offer alternatives if a product is out of stock; take the customer to the product, etc.).
•Personalize the customers shopping experience (make small talk, offer meal suggestions, explain current store promotions, etc.).
•THANK all customers (show appreciation and offer a parting comment).
WORKING CONDITIONS
•Continuously work indoors where it may be cold and dusty, and with a high volume of customers and co-workers.
•Occasionally work in cold temperatures when doing price changes in the Frozen Foods section; around fumes from marker pens when making signs.
•Seldom work in hot and humid temperatures when performing inventory in the store warehouse; around fumes and noxious odors from various products and cleaning agents.
WORK HOURS
•Generally be available for work 7 days a week and holidays, between 8:00 am and 2:00 am, depending on the store and department's hours of operation.
EQUIPMENT USE
•Frequently use a computer terminal, printer and Xerox machine when processing reports, printing signs and communicating with various vendors, buyers and inventory clerks; TELXON Unit to perform price checks, shelf label audits, validations and 99s, place orders for shelf labels and talkers; telephone to communicate with customers, co-workers, vendors, buyers and inventory clerks regarding price verification and other job duties; price gun to price merchandise that does not scan or is soon to be deleted; shredding machine to shred reports; price change cart to perform validation, and make price and sign changes to merchandise on the sales floor.
•Occasionally use a cash register to verify prices; scissors, paper cutter and laminating sheets when working with signs and shelf labels; feather duster, paper towels, broom, dust pan and cleaners to maintain cleanliness of shelves; step stool to assist in hanging labels and signs.

MENTAL, PHYSICAL AND COMMUNICATION DEMANDS
•MENTAL Continuously need to concentrate well, be fully alert and accurate, to perform all duties; be able to prioritize various tasks to maximize productivity and efficiency, even with frequent interruptions. Occasionally need to use mathematical abilities to take inventory.
•PHYSICAL Continuously need to handle, use fingers, and corrected vision when performing all job duties. Frequently need to stand, walk, bend, squat, kneel, crouch and reach, to clean shelves, hang labels and signs; climb ladder and balance to change shelf labels and clean shelves. Occasionally need to lift and carry up to 30 lbs. when transporting products from shelf to cart.
•COMMUNICATION Frequently need to listen, talk to, and understand customers, supervisors and co-workers, and assist them with their requests when doing all job duties; read product labels when hanging labels signs; read and write in communication book; write signs. Occasionally need to talk on the telephone to call other stores for information, answer incoming calls, transfer calls to another department, respond to Cashiers pages, use the PA system, and contact and talk to vendors, co-workers and Administration personnel.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Skills and Knowledge: Must have basic math skills, be able to multi task to accomplish work on time, be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with workers, vendors and management, and be able to work under minimal or no supervision.
Education and Experience: None.
Age Restrictions:
•Must be at least 16 years of age to use a case cutter.
•Must be at least 18 years of age to operate a paper shredder, trash baler, freight elevator, and any power driven equipment.
•Must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid Driver License to operate a forklift and company vehicle. Also need to be company certified to operate a forklift.
