*This position is eligible for a temporary $750 Sign-on Bonus, paid out in three increments throughout the first 6 months of employment, based on the number of hours worked.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY

The primary responsibility of a Cashier is to ensure customer satisfaction by promptly and accurately checking out each customer at the check stand, while being accountable for every payment/refund transaction. A Cashier also increases customer loyalty by assisting all customers with courteous, pleasant, and patient service.

JOB DESCRIPTION

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

You MUST perform the following duties regularly and up to company standards:

Promptly and efficiently greet, thank, offer assistance, and meet the needs of all customers.

Accurately and quickly scan, weigh, or ring up customers purchases.

Collect the correct amount owed and return the correct amount of change to the customer.

Account for all coupons and various forms of payment and refunds.

NON-ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

In order to provide the best possible service to our customers, the following duties are also required on an as-needed basis, during slow periods, or upon instruction by a supervisor, manager or designated person-incharge.

Study and be able to explain specials, ads and promotions to customers.

Answer and forward incoming telephone calls.

Use PA system to get assistance with prices and merchandise, and to promote various merchandise.

Replace, retrieve or price check items for customers as needed.

Assist Courtesy Clerks with bagging merchandise.

Count and balance till after each shift.

Refill supplies at the checkout as needed.

Maintain cleanliness at the checkout and in the accountability rooms.

Assist other departments with job duties when necessary.

Perform other duties as required or assigned.

CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPECTATIONS

All associates are required to provide our customers with World Class Service with a local touch.

GREET all customers (be friendly, smile and make face-to-face eye contact).

HELP all customers (listen and pay attention; be courteous; be knowledgeable about product location, services offered and store hours; offer alternatives if a product is out of stock; take the customer to the product, etc.).

Personalize the customers shopping experience (make small talk, offer meal suggestions, explain current store promotions, etc.).

THANK all customers (show appreciation and offer a parting comment).

WORKING CONDITIONS

Continuously perform all duties in an air conditioned building where it may be dirty, dusty, and noisy, and with a high volume of customers and co-workers.

Seldom work around odors from various products and customers perfumes. WORK HOURS

Generally be available for work 7 days a week and holidays, from store open to close. EQUIPMENT USE Continuously use a scanner, conveyor belt, computer terminal / register, till drawer and cash to charge customers for their purchases.

Frequently use reusable, plastic and/or paper bags to bag customers groceries; use scissors and tape dispenser when performing duties at the checkout; use a telephone and PA system to communicate with customers and co-workers.

Occasionally use adding machine when performing accountability duties; shopping cart to assist customers with their groceries.

Seldom use a pricing gun and ladder when assisting with stock and price change duties; use dust pan and broom when cleaning checkouts.

SAFETY EQUIPMENT

Continuously wear a wrist support brace when performing all job duties.

MENTAL, PHYSICAL AND COMMUNICATION DEMANDS

MENTAL Continuously need to concentrate well, pay attention to detail, and be alert when performing all duties to ensure the safety and satisfaction of employees and customers; be able to understand the basic concepts of scanning and bagging groceries efficiently and without damaging any items; be fully alert and accurate when scanning and weighing merchandise, accepting coupons (ex. Manufacture, WIC), and when counting cash and other forms of tender; be able to work efficiently, even with frequent interruptions. Frequently need to be knowledgeable of store promotions, product codes and location, to assist customers with their needs. Occasionally need to be able to remain calm, courteous and professional when handling various customer situations and complaints.

PHYSICAL Continuously need to stand, reach, handle, have good eye-hand coordination and fingering abilities when ringing up customers purchases and collecting payment. Frequently need to push, pull, lift and carry up to 40 lbs. when assisting customers with their groceries. Occasionally need to climb up and down the stairway to retrieve and put away cash till; need to walk to retrieve or replace an item for a customer. Seldom need to bend or crouch when placing or retrieving items from under the shopping cart, refilling supplies and when performing cleaning duties; need to have good color vision in order to identify various products (mostly fresh fruit).

COMMUNICATION Continuously need to talk to and meet the needs of customers when greeting and thanking them, explaining store promotions, and assisting them with their requests and questions. Frequently need to talk to and meet the needs of co-workers when communicating and assisting with job duties; give instructions to locate a product, explain a promotion or train new employees; read signs, weekly ads, coupons, various tenders, product and shelf labels, correctly when assisting customers with their purchases. Occasionally need to write when logging voids and refunds, filling out charge and WIC slips, and communicating in communication book; talk on the telephone when answering incoming calls, using the PA (Public Address) System to transfer calls and request for assistance, and to provide customer service.

Qualifications

Skills and Knowledge: Must have good math skills, be able to collect and return the correct amount of money owed, be able to multi task to accomplish work on time, be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, and be able to work under minimal or no supervision.

Education and Experience: Prior cashier experience is helpful.

Age Restrictions:

Must be at least 18 years of age to ring up liquor sales.
