Job Description

Reporting into the Director of Engineering and part of a wider team, the Design Engineer role offers a dynamic opportunity to shape the future of energy transmission by integrating innovative solutions into both new and existing overhead transmission lines. As a key contributor, you will conceive, design, and optimize transmission lines, utilizing advanced composite line posts, braced line posts, and insulated cross-arms. Your work will focus on delivering cost-effective, technically competitive solutions that drive industry standards forward.

Main duties and responsibilities include the following:
  • Integrate cutting-edge technology into compact new-build and refurbishment transmission line projects, ensuring optimal performance and cost efficiency.
  • Lead the design and optimization of transmission lines, including insulation coordination, support head geometry, structure spotting, load-strength coordination, span optimization, and more.
  • Create comprehensive design solution packages, complete with drawings and detailed reports.
  • Engage in research and development efforts to continuously improve transmission line designs with composite insulation.
  • Strategically identify and capture business opportunities, ensuring that advanced product solutions are integrated into grid projects.
  • Stay current with technical standards and codes, incorporating the latest best practices into your work.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to enhance transmission line projects.

The Successful Applicant

In return for a competitive remuneration package, the successful candidate will possess the following:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in PLS CADD and PLS POLE transmission line engineering in North America.
  • Expertise in designing compact transmission lines with insulated cross-arms.
  • Proven success in optimizing transmission line designs and conducting cost evaluation studies.
  • Strong knowledge of technical standards and codes for transmission line projects, from planning through execution.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing innovative solutions for compact transmission lines.
