There is one vacancy with the Department of Transportation Services (DTS), located in Honolulu. The position oversees the DTS safety, emergency, and security design criteria, policies, plans, procedures, work instructions, practices, and activities for multimodal transportation. The position has overall responsibility for the Safety and Security Office including environmental, health, and safety, system safety and compliance, emergency, cyber security, and security functions. The position serves as the safety, emergency, and security subject matter expert. The position is the primary liaison with the State Safety Oversight Agency and is responsible for safety and security certifications. The position manages and directs the complex development, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and enhancement of safety, emergency, and security programs for multimodal transportation. The position is responsible for the reduction and mitigation of hazards, injuries, accidents, as well as threats and ensures compliance with local, state, and federal laws, regulations, and standards. The position communicates with senior leadership and represents the department at public meetings with regard to safety, emergency, and security information. The position is responsible for quality assurance measures and support necessary to monitor, review and analyze the performance of the operations and maintenance services Contractors with regard to safety, emergency, and security systems to ensure a safe, reliable, and customer driven multimodal transit service. Establish and maintain a positive relationship with Contractors. Demonstrate a commitment to safety that guides all aspects of work through consistent and professional behaviors in performance of the essential duties. Perform related duties as required.
Special Work Requirements: Must be able to handle highly confidential information. Incumbent of this position is designated as a Disaster Response Worker whose responsibilities may require night and weekend work during natural disasters, and other emergencies (e.g., when 24-hour staffing of the City's Emergency Operating Center is activated).
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with specialization in city planning, architecture, engineering, economics, sociology, public administration or a related field.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Six years of professional work experience in city planning or related planning activities, two of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity.
