Description:

TheDepartment of Customer Servicesis hiring a Motor Vehicle Control Inspector Ito perform duties pertaining to the enforcement of rules, regulations and procedures governing common carrier companies and motor vehicle safety inspection stations in assigned areas.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Conducting field investigations of complaints on abandoned and derelict vehicles.
  • Conducting field inspections of various vehicles for compliance with City ordinances and State laws, including:
    • Taxi, tour, tow, U-drive vehicles
    • Pedicabs, mopeds, and passenger-carrying trucks
    • Reconstructed vehicles and safety inspection stations
  • Verifying companies (e.g., taxi, U-drive, tour, pedicab) have valid business licenses and permits.
  • Performing other duties and responsibilities of the position.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience which demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Two (2) years of experience in inspectional, investigative, instructional or repair work which shall have included ascertaining the overall mechanical, operating and safety condition of motor vehicles.

LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
Possession of a valid appropriate driver's license (automobile/Type 3), prior to appointment.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Possession of a special police commissionprior to completion of probation. During the probationary period, selectees shall be fingerprinted, photographed, and subject to a background investigation by the Honolulu Police Department.


TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE EVALUATION: In addition to meeting the above minimum qualifications, your application will be further evaluated.
