Director of Finance

Reports to the Executive Director

Location: Statewide, Hawaii. Hybrid with most of the work being done from your home office. Traveling between islands for in-person events and meetings are required at times.

Applicants must currently live in Hawaii or show proof of having lived in Hawaii and would be moving back to Hawaii for employment.

Salary Range: $80,000.00 - $95,000.00

About Hawaiian Community Assets (HCA):

Our mission is to build the capacity of low- and moderate-income communities to achieve and sustain economic self-sufficiency with a particular focus on Native Hawaiians.

We operate offices throughout the State of Hawai‘i, providing financial counseling, income support, and employment and entrepreneurship coaching to low- and moderate-income households and communities.

Position Summary:

The Director of Finance responsibilities include overseeing financial operations and providing strategic financial guidance to the executive team. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have a passion for helping the community achieve financial stability and homeownership.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee all financial operations of the organization, including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and compliance.
  • Develop and implement financial strategies that support our mission and goals, working closely with the executive team.
  • Ensure the organization complies with all financial regulations, including HUD regulations for non-profits.
  • Manage grant applications and financial reporting for government grants and private foundations.
  • Oversee and manage the accounting team to ensure all financial transactions are recorded accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Monitor cash flow and financial performance, making recommendations for adjustments as needed.
  • Work closely with program staff to ensure program budgets are accurate and aligned with our mission and goals.
  • Develop and monitor internal controls to ensure financial integrity and security.
  • Prepare financial reports and presentations for the Board of Directors and other stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, Accounting, or related field required; Master's degree preferred.
  • At least 7 years of experience in financial management, preferably in a non-profit organization.
  • Knowledge of HUD regulations for non-profits and government grant reporting requirements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop and implement financial strategies.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with program staff and the executive team.
  • Experience managing a team of financial professionals.
  • Passion for our mission of providing financial education to Native Hawaiians with the goal of home readiness.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and understanding of Hawaiian culture and values.
  • Basic understanding of Hawaiian Home Lands.
  • Previous experience with Federal grants management.
  • Previous experience working in accounting for a financial institution.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office computer programs (Word, Excel, Access, Publisher).
  • Knowledge of QuickBooks and basic financial reporting.
  • Previous experience with bookkeeping and accounts payable/receivable.

Compensation:

  • Salaried position: range $80,000 to $95,000 annually.
