Co-Executive Director (Volunteer)

Description:

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Co-Executive Director (ED) will have overall strategic responsibility for MCS's staff, programs, growth, and execution of its mission. The Co-Executive Director will continue to develop deep knowledge of the sanctuary sector, core programs, operations, and strategy.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the business admin team, bookkeeper, finance team, grants, community outreach and development, filling 990-EX, GET taxes, tech team.
  • Actively engage and energize MCS volunteers, board members, intern alumni, partnering organizations, and funders.
  • Develop, maintain, and support a strong Board of Directors and seek to build board involvement with strategic direction.
  • Expand revenue-generating and fundraising activities to support existing program operations and planned growth.
  • Deepen and refine all aspects of communications to create a stronger brand.
  • Continue to build partnerships, establish relationships with funders, and political and community leaders.
  • Be an external presence that communicates organizational results with an emphasis on the successes of the program and its discernible impact.

  • Director of Administration
  • Director of Finance
  • Director of Sanctuary Operations
  • Director of Advancement
  • Director of Animal Care

Collaborates With:

  • Board of Directors
  • Sanctuary Directors and Leadership team

Qualifications:

  • 18 years of age or older.
  • Minimum high school education or equivalent (e.g., GED).
  • Bachelor's Degree in business administration, nonprofit management, public administration, or a related field strongly preferred.
  • Previous Executive Director or senior management experience required.
  • Basic computer competency (e.g., Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Excellent communication and planning skills.
  • Must be a team player.
  • At least 1-year volunteer experience with Magical Creatures Sanctuary preferred.

Training:

  • Attend the initial site-plan alignment meeting with the Board of Directors to understand the mission, vision and values of the sanctuary.
  • On-the-job training with Directors.

Time and Place:

Virtual and on-site work at the Magical Creatures Sanctuary property. Primarily virtual work with some on-site work. Flexible schedule, ensuring all role needs are met.

Commitment:

  • Overall time commitment: 10 - 15 hours per week.

Supervision:

Direct supervision by Board Directors.

Job Type: Part-time

Expected hours: 10 – 15 per week.
